” Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Mag′dalene and the other Mary went to see the sepulchre. And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone, and sat upon it. His appearance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow. And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid; for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. Lo, I have told you.”So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. “
Matt 28:1-8
Jesus died for our sins, a perfect sacrifice to reconcile us with Our Father. But his divinity means he conquered death, and resurrected. Something I think is interesting, is that Jesus’ resurrected body is his ‘glorified body’ and doesn’t seem to always follow the rules of physics (like time and space). He can walk next to people who knew him without them even recognizing him; he appears in a locked room with his disciples; he appears and disappears throughout the next parts of the gospel. And yet his wounds still appear, which we know from the story of doubting Thomas. It makes me wonder what our glorified bodies will be like. Will be able to move outside the rules of time and space, and yet have the scars of our life here on earth? I suppose we’ll find out one day.
Well, that’s all too deep for your youngsters. I guess all these mysteries have me thinking. As you use this coloring page, you can simply explain to your little ones how Jesus was both human AND God, and so the human part of his died in the Crucifixion, but the God-ness in him allowed him to come back to life in the Resurrection. It really is a Glorious thing isn’t it?!
Thank you for visiting! I hope you have a wonderful week and come back for more Glorious mysteries everyday!
