Lent Stations of the Cross

Stations of the Cross at Home

I just finished creating and sharing with you, 14 Stations of the Cross 3D printable grottos, and I thought I would show you how we used them today.

First we waited for the (eats-anything-and-everything) 1 year old to be napping.  That was probably the most important step.

Then we darkened our living room by turning out the lights and closing the blinds.  We set up the stations around the coffee table (the perfect height for little people to be able to see them all), and set candles next to each one.

(Please be careful, and use candles under adult supervision and not too close to the paper stations… blah blah blah… please don’t burn your house down etc).

I took just a couple pictures on my phone before we started:

My 4 year old and I did the stations together.  First we read the title of the station and discussed what it was about, what happened. I read the prayer for that station using the Stations of the Cross Minibook. Then Eva blew out (gently) that station’s candle.  I was grateful to share this prayerful devotion with her, and for the opportunity to teach her about how great a sacrifice Jesus made for us.  She seemed to actually get it.  I  mean I know she must’ve had some fun blowing out the candles (like any other little kid), but she was serious the whole time.

When we were done, we stored the stations and all the candles in Eva’s prayer table box

Prayer box holds them all and the candels

In case you missed them, here are the links to the posts with the grottos.

Would it be ok if I shared this on our school FB page (St. Paul Catholic School of Princeton – NJ)?
Now that Masses and the Stations of the Cross have been cancelled at so many churches (including ours) this would be a wonderful thing for our families and children to do at home.
    Thank you!!

Kristen, these are beautiful. Thank you for them. This year when we cannot go to church for the stations it made our day to find these on your site. We can now create our own stations at home. Thank you so much!
