If you are a momma reading this, fear not. I bet almost every waking hour of your life is spent counseling the doubtful, as in instructing your kids and bringing them up to be God-loving people. Even if you aren’t consciously speaking specifically about God, you are leading by example, in the words you choose, how you spend your time, and how you handle your everyday situations. I consider that part of counseling the ‘doubtful’ that are your children.
If you are an adult thinking about about counseling another adult, it can be a tricky subject. I know from personal experience that it can be hard to talk about faith with anyone who a) doesn’t believe in God at all 2) is Christian but doesn’t ‘get’ Catholicism or even 3) is Catholic but has fallen away from the teachings of the Church. I recently came across this article at Serviam Ministries, which I felt was right on the mark. Basically, keep it short and answer the question. It’s not a long article, so go there and read it! And next time someone asks you a question about your faith, lovingly and completely answer it, but don’t talk their ear off! God-willing, they will ask you more questions in the future.
