If you love peg doll saints, then you are going to love this! I’ve been working on something very exciting and I’m so happy to share it with you! I love that several sites show ways to make cathedrals for your peg dolls, but something seemed to be missing.
A lot of their best known stories take place elsewhere from a cathedral. And then it occurred to me. I could make pop-out saint scenes to show places where they actually may have been! So I present to you:
I’ve created scenes for 8 of my favorite saints.
A grotto for Saint Bernadette and Our Lady of Lourdes
Ireland with fleeing snakes for Saint Patrick
Nature and probably too many animals for Saint Francis
A dragon for Saint George
A music room for Saint Cecilia
The Vatican for Saint John Paul II
(although this could work for any of your bishop/pope saints)
Mexican desert for Saint Juan Diego and Our Lady of Guadalupe
(You may recognize some of these saints from the Catholic Icing Printable Peg Dolls collection.)
And the streets of a town with gold coins in the window for Saint Nicholas
I drew these in black ink and then watercolored them. They are each a tiny work of art. I didn’t just color them in, but I added beautiful details like the sunset for Saint Patrick’s scene and the animal fur in Saint Francis’ scene. If you look closely, you’ll notice the attention to detail I put into each picture.
So you’re thinking “Wow, pop out saint scenes? Neat, but that sounds hard to make.”
But they totally aren’t difficult to make at all!
Don’t believe me? Watch how I take a saint scene from just a sheet of paper to a 3-d pop out scene for your peg doll in less than 3 minutes.
Still don’t believe me? I just know if you try one out, you’ll see how easy and fun they are. So I’ve made the scene for Saint Bernadette and Our Lady of Lourdes in black and white FREE. Click the button below:
Saint Bernadette and Our Lady of Lourdes Paper Doll and Scene {Free trial}
The full download includes all 8 scenes in black and white AND in beautiful watercolors. That’s 16 pages of scenery, plus a couple pages of instructions with pictures, in case you don’t have the video above handy. You may be thinking “Wow these are great! But I don’t have any of those peg doll saints.” But I have awesome news for you! I made paper doll saints too!!! If you don’t have the time or resources to make the peg doll saints, but still want the fun and enjoyment of having little toy saints around, then these are perfect for you. These paper doll saints conveniently go with the scenes I made. You’ll notice in the line up: Saint Francis, Saint Bernadette, Our Lady of Lourdes, Saint Juan Diego, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Pope John Paul II, Saint Nicholas, Saint Cecilia, Saint Patrick, and Saint George. They were drawn in black ink and then watercolored. Each saint has both a front and a back (they’re two sided but you only have to print on one side!), and they can stand up on their own. Once you’ve cut them out and folded them, they are about 3 1/2 inches tall (about the same height as the most popular size of saint peg dolls). I designed them to be especially easy to cut out. There are no arms, animals, instruments, coziers, crucifixes, or any other items sticking out that would be difficult to cut around, or easy for little hands to accidentally cut off. Nothing is sadder than a child cutting out their own craft and accidentally amputating someone’s arm. But, there is an even easier option. As a mother of a crafty 4 year old, I know even cutting around well designed people may be tricky or time consuming for her. So, around each saint is a solid line box which you could cut on instead. They’re cute whether they’re cut out like boxes or around the people! You get each saint in both black and white AND in beautiful watercolors!
