My chapter of Catholic Schoolhouse (CSH) has officially started this school year. It’s been a fair bit of work organizing, purchasing and getting ready for our new group but even after the first day I’m seeing the fruits of my labor. We have some amazing kids and their parents are pretty awesome too.
During our first day we had a ‘virtue poster’ competition. CSH encourages five virtues throughout the year: Respect, Responsibility, Gratitude, Courtesy and Self-Control. Many other virtues can easily be explained through these five, and many many classroom expectations and behaviors can be directed towards exhibiting these virtues. Hitting someone? – Self Control, not paying attention to the teacher- Respect, using manners- courtesy- you get the idea.
So our kids wowed us with their awesome virtue posters- and instead of giving only the top 3 ‘viewers choice’ posters owners a prize, we gave all the kids a prize. I thought something small, printable and useful would be a great prize- bookmarks they could color themselves! But after scouring the internet for just the right bookmarks to color, and coming up short (well for free ones at least), I ended up making my own bookmarks to color.

They aren’t super fancy, but each one has one of the CSH virtues on it, along with some scripture pointing toward that virtue. I’d say they were pretty much perfect for what I needed them for. As I was handing them out, I was a little worried they’d be a ‘lame’ prize for the amazing posters I saw… but one of my kids said “YEAH! I REALLY needed a bookmark, this is great!” Which made me feel pretty good.
The five verses on these cards are:
“Give Thanks in all circumstances” 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (Gratitude)
“As you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.” Luke 6:31 (Respect)
“Speak evil about no one, to avoid quarreling to be gentile and to show perfect courtesy towards all people” Titus 3:2 (Courtesy)
“For God gave us a spirit not of fear, but of power and love and self control” 2 Timothy 1:7 (Self Control)
“Whatever you do work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men” Colossians 3:23 (Responsibility)
So if you need some free printable virtue scripture bookmarks to color for kids, you’ve come to the right place. Just print them on cardstock, cut apart, color and go read a book so you can use your bookmark!
Thanks for visiting!
