“Now about eight days after these sayings he took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray.  And as he was praying, the appearance of his countenance was altered, and his raiment became dazzling white.  And behold, two men talked with him, Moses and Eli′jah,  who appeared in glory and spoke of his departure, which he was to accomplish at Jerusalem. Now Peter and those who were with him were heavy with sleep, and when they wakened they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. And as the men were parting from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is well that we are here; let us make three booths, one for you and one for Moses and one for Eli′jah”—not knowing what he said.  As he said this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!”

Luke 9:28-35

It must’ve been truly amazing to see Jesus transformed before their eyes, and then two holy (but also dead) men talking with him. I wonder what all was going through Peter’s head.  In this story I totally get how God can see us as children and He the Father.  I mean a miraculous thing just happens and Peter’s response was “this is awesome! lets build you some tents!”  Do you think Peter felt silly?  He sets a wonderful example though in that he first says “It is well that we are here” acknowledging that Jesus is at the center of his life, and he is in His presence.  And then his second though is in serving Jesus, even if it’s a silly thing like making tents.  Even Luke comments that Peter was not ‘knowing what he said.’ But let us still use Peter’s example for our own lives.  When Jesus does something remarkable for us, lets first say “Yay, this is awesome!” and next find a way to serve Him.

Thanks and God Bless,

Kristen
