A great road trip activity- Paper Doll Mary meets magnet tape

I don’t know about you, but we travel a lot in the summer.  As we are getting ready for a long drive to see the grandparents, I’ve been searching for new and fun ways to keep my little ones entertained.  And then it hit me, magnet tape and the Mary Paper dolls I had already made.

You can find the Mary Paper Doll post here.

I already had some of this magnetic tape so I simply cut it into little strips and stuck it to the back of Mary, her outfits and veils.  Trim off the tabs and ta-da!  Magnetic Mary ready for fun in the car.

How is that a road trip activity you say? Well throw in an old cookie sheet (the steel kind not aluminum) and you have a perfect backdrop for magnetic fun.

I went ahead and cut off the bottom part on the dresses, but you don’t have to. If you do, her base layer dress shows a little, which I personally don’t mind.

Mary and all her accessories fit conveniently in a gallon ziplock bag.

Personally, I’m hiding this magnetized paper doll set until we hit the road, to keep it more fun and ‘new.’

All this got me thinking… wasn’t there something else I had used this magical magnet tape on already?  Yes! The nativity scene I made for Celebrating Holidays last winter.  Maybe it’s not the right season for it, but I definitely pulled that set of magnetic pieces out of the Christmas stuff box.  Because we haven’t seen it in so long, I’ll bet it will be even more popular to play with than Mary.  But we’ll see.

Don’t let your cookie sheet sit idle when they’re through with the paper dolls and nativity.  It makes a perfect lap-desk for coloring, or a platform for matchbox cars to drive on.  Plus the side of it keeps things from rolling away and getting stuck between carseats.  I’m packing a whole cookie-sheet-compatible kid entertainment kit for our drive. I’m sure there are even more possibilities out there for a cookie sheet in the cars!
