It’s Thursday of Holy Week, also called Maundy Thursday. One of the best known stories about this day is the Last Supper of Jesus and his diciples in the upper room. This is where Jesus instituted the Eucharist, and so for today’s 3-D paper craft, I’ve got a Chalice and Bread for you.

“And as they were eating, he took the bread, and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to them, and said “Take; this is my body.” And he took a cup , and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it. And he said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many. Truly, I say to you, I shall not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when i drink it new in the kingdom of God.”
Mark 14:22-25
This 3-d chalice and bread activity is a little trickier than the others, so you may need to help your younger crafters. I highly recommend glue dots for this one, but tape will work too. (Don’t use glue stick)
First print your printable on cardstock. Color it in and cut it out!
Fold the tabs in on the Chalice pieces
Secure the smaller curved piece (the bottom of the chalice) to the bread piece using the dotted line rectangles for guidance. Use glue dots or tape.
Secure the larger curved piece (the top of the chalice) to the bread piece using the dotted line rectangles for guidance. First attach the bottom piece, then the sides.
It should look something like this now.
Roll the rectangular piece (the chalice stem) so that the two flaps overlap. It should form a half circle from the side, the flat part is where the flaps overlap.
Secure the stem to the bread using the dotted line rectangle for guidance. Depending on the accuracy of your top and bottom pieces, you may need to trim the stem a little. Just snip it with your scissors to fit.
This is what it looks like from the side and front.
To hang it from your mobile, punch a hole in the top of the bread piece. Tie a string or yarn to it and tie to your mobile!
This teaching of Jesus of the bread and wine, body and blood, is so important in our faith. This is a wonderful opportunity to discuss our beliefs on transubstantiation. You can be telling them about it while they’re sitting in one place coloring and cutting.
The entire Holy Week Mobile in one downloadable document including both color and B&W copies is available here in my shop for $3! If you want to save yourself some time clicking through the blog, or coloring in pieces, be sure to check it out!
Thank you for joining me! I’m praying that you all grow closer to our Lord Jesus Christ this Holy Week.
