A work of mercy close to my heart is visiting the sick.

Although it’s sometimes titled ‘visit’ the sick, I really think this work of mercy encompasses any aid you provide for those who are sick or going through a difficult time. If you personally know someone who is ill, you can visit them if they wish to see people, or provide something for them to help out like meals, groceries, picking up their medicine, or even coming over just to help with yard work or household chores. If you don’t know anyone but still want to work this act of mercy into your year, you can easily visit a nursing home. Many of the residents of nursing homes do not even get visited by their own families, or have family that lives in another state and can’t visit often. Make some cards ahead of time, and bring your cute little kids in there to cheer them up. Always check with the front desk to make sure you know who needs (and would like) having visitors.
As someone who has recently been very (morning/all-day) sick, I have to say I really really appropriated the help of friends in the form of meals and groceries. But honestly I’m glad they didn’t try to hang out for long. Be mindful if the sick want actual visiting or just some help in an area of life.
Thanks!
